Why join the Chamber?

We run programs that offer promotional materials, events and activities to welcome new residents and businesses to the area, ensuring that your business is front and centre and ahead of the local competition with this very valuable target audience.

Networking — While today’s technology and the ability to network online may have you wondering if the local Chamber of Commerce way of doing business in person is obsolete, think again. There’s still nothing as strong as face-to-face communication where building trust, respect and name recognition is concerned...nothing. And it’s only through building that level of relationship over time that you are likely to acquire customer referrals and find the most suitable vendors, consultants and distributors you need to help you grow your small business long-term.

Mentoring — Having a mentor when you are starting or trying to grow your own small business, and the local Chamber of Commerce is a great place to find one. It’s also a great place for you as an established small business owner or entrepreneur to offer your services to an up and comer in this regard. Nothing pays you back like paying it forward, and mentoring is no exception to that rule.

Events and programs — We facilitate a whole host of activities and events over the course of a year, each designed to help you as a small business owner to either get to know your peers, your competition or your customers that much better. These kinds of programs provide tremendous business opportunities for people to get to know one another and expand their prospect base and generate great leads.

What access does my membership give me?

NSW Business Chamber is working to unify the chamber movement in Australia and strengthen the voice of business. Members of local chambers that are part of the Local Chamber Alliance Program have direct access to NSW Business Chamber entitlements, in addition to their entitlements offered by their local chamber.

Meeting opens 4:10pm

Chairman thanks the members for their attendance, and acknowledges that this is an
administrative AGM. Chairman states that alternate attendees will have an opportunity to
discuss any points they have in general business of the AGM.

President welcomes everybody to the 2018 AGM and thanks them for their attendance.
Chairman states that’s been a challenging but positive year, with some great achievements,
a soft launch of the buy local campaign, the formation of the Business Development
committee and challenges with the communication channels George’s River Council remain
a focal point for the Executive committee, the buy local campaign will be the focal point for
the Executive in 2019.

Chairman states that the Executive committee is happy with the progress of the Business
Development committee and that it remains a work in progress that will go from strength to
strength, it has been excellent to see the business community and the general public
acknowledging the good work the St George Business Chamber.

Previous AGM minutes have been accepted as moved by Tak Li and Allan Zreik being the
seconder.

The financials were presented by the Treasurer along with the Auditor’s report, the
Treasurer noted that the St George business chamber has spent more than it has received
due to the delay of funding by the George’s River Council. Chairman asked the Treasurer if
the 2018-2019 money from the Georges River Council had been received and the Treasurer
noted the delay is 6 months as of the AGM, that payment has still not been received as yet.
Carlos Zeidan accepts the financials provided by the Treasurer Allan Zreik seconder.

General Business

George Votera asked the Chairman a question relating to membership growth and how much growth in members have occurred in 2018, Chairman stated the focus for the Executive committee in 2018 has been around the to-ing and fro-ing with Georges River Council, however in 2019 with the focus on the buy local campaign along with the business development committee agenda, we should a spike in local business wanting to join the Chamber.

Nick Christo asked the Chairman is the St George business chamber reliant on the MOU or can the St George business chamber access sponsorship from other sources, the President said that in 2019 we will be following up those businesses who are favourable to the St George business chamber in relation to support.

Nick Christo stated that the Chamber is willing to work with the George’s River Council and that the Chamber have gone beyond and above and trying to work with River Council, Nick Christo stated that the onus is on the Council to be willing to work with community groups such as the St George business chamber, Nick Christo also stated that the business community as well as members may look at the MOU as an anchor and may act unfavourably when issues are raised with Georges River Council. Chairman responded by stating that the Executive committee is committed in the advocacy of local small business no matter what the circumstances are or what agreements are in place.

George Votera asked Treasurer that if George’s River Council had paid 2018-2019 outstanding monies whether or not the financial would be in surplus, Treasurer responded by stating that if the monies were paid that the financials would be in surplus by approximately $8,000.

Chairperson announced that the next AGM will be held on 10 December 2019.
